Association between cancer mortality and trihalomethane in drinking water (Portuguese ONLY)

The relation between high mortality rates by cancer and the level of trihalomethane (THM´s) presented in drinking water were studied. The study was conduicted after beeing adjusted to the standard levels for socio-economic, industrial and demographic patterns. The local north american counties were grouped according to the porcentage of the population that used tap water from the local treating stations.

The chloration of organic material generates a significant amount of haloacethic acids (HAAs). When present in water, ion bromide alternates the distribution of HAAs, including bromide species. Once that HAAs present in water for humam consumption is at aim due to the fact that it may cause adverse reaction, tecnical analysis are under developmento to detect and quantify them.
